On November 21, 2024, the final of the Hubei Rural Revitalization Practical Technology Competition was grandly held at East Lake Hotel in Wuhan. Hosted by the Department of Science and Technology of Hubei Province and organized by Hubei Science and Technology Information Research Institute, the competition saw the Green Efficient Production Technology of Broccolini awarded the First Prize alongside four other technologies.

With the theme “Scientific and Technological Innovation Leading Agricultural Modernization”, the competition aimed to empower the construction of beautiful and harmonious villages through scientific and technological progress. Since its launch, it has attracted extensive participation from technology-based enterprises and farmer professional cooperatives across 17 prefecture-level cities in Hubei Province. After fierce rounds of competition, 150 practical technologies were selected for the group matches.In the first Wuhan Metropolitan Area group match held on November 4, the Green Efficient Production Technology of Broccolini won first place in the group and successfully qualified for the final.

At the final on November 21, representatives of 15 shortlisted projects took to the stage in turn to introduce their technical key points and application effects. Broccolini is a high-end new derivative variety of broccoli independently developed by Yafei Seed over more than 10 years. It features excellent commodity traits, complete varieties, wide adaptability, and can be planted twice a year in most parts of China.

Adopting the mode of “improved varieties plus sound methods”, the green efficient production technology boosts the per-mu yield of Broccolini to 2,000–3,000 jin, with a per-mu income of about 10,000 yuan—far higher than that of conventional broccoli and ordinary vegetables. Broccolini has been promoted on about 10,000 mu in Hubei and radiated to about 100,000 mu nationwide, evolving into a new green industry driving rural economic revitalization in many regions and supporting the construction of beautiful villages.

“Rural revitalization starts with the seed industry.” The award is not only recognition from the judging panel but also full approval from growers. Yafei Seed has taken the lead in formulating and issuing group standards and provincial standards for Broccolini production technical regulations, supporting the high-quality development of the Broccolini specialty vegetable industry.In the future, Yafei Seed will accelerate the promotion of Broccolini planting technology, so that the green efficient cultivation of Broccolini will make greater contributions to increasing farmers’ income and building beautiful villages.
